The Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) Tour runs events around the world, including stops in Switzerland such as AJP Tour Zurich and AJP Tour Neuchâtel. Its rules differ from the IBJJF in important ways, so athletes moving between circuits should not assume the same rules apply.
The AJP rulebook is updated over time. Always read the current version on ajptour.com before registering. The overview below describes the general approach only.
A Points-Based System
AJP uses a points system in which the actions that used to be signaled as advantages or penalties are scored as points. This differs from the IBJJF, where advantages are a separate tiebreaker. Because specific point values have been revised in the past, check the rulebook for current numbers.
Match Times
AJP matches have historically been 5 minutes for rounds before the final and longer for finals. Some formats add a short golden-point extension for matches that end 0-0. Times can vary by event and division, so confirm them on the event page.
Gi and Grappling
- Gi. AJP gi competition requires an AJP-approved gi. See our uniform guide for the details.
- Grappling. AJP also publishes separate grappling rules, which use a round-based 10-point must system, where judges score a round 10 points for the winner and fewer for the loser if there is no submission.
